On the state of academic writing

December 13, 2009

Before I get to work on writing of a substantial means, I would really like to have a good system in place for handling things. All I really want is:

A way to mark up the document into sections
A way to easily cite references (ideally drag & drop)
A way to format that document similar to how [...]

Windows 7 ungodly slow on netbook

November 8, 2009

I haven’t a laptop of my own, so I recently purchased a Dell Mini 10v. It runs pretty well in general, but recently I’ve been copying some files and it’s incredibly slow.
Just copying a bunch of small files (~1,600 files with a total size < 7mb) took almost 25 minutes. That seems INCREDIBLY slow, even [...]

Drawing Class #5

November 4, 2009

Tonight we were given half of a forward facing person and asked to complete the other half using mostly values. I couldn’t quite make myself draw an exact mirror image like we were supposed to… but I think they turned out pretty well. It was the first drawing class where I wasn’t disappointed with my [...]

Drawing Class #4

November 4, 2009

In this class we were given small mirrors and were supposed to focus on doing a self-portrait. I was not at all happy with how mine turned out. Oh well, guess I just need some more practice.

I haven’t taken an art class since elementary school (no Josh, computer video art in high school doesn’t [...]

Magical disappearing iPhone alarm times

October 1, 2009

I don’t have a fix or anything for this… but anyone else experiencing a disappearing act with times in the iPhone’s alarms? This has been happening to me ever since the 2.0 firmware, both on my previous handset (original iPhone) and the new 3GS.

Unstable airport drives under Snow Leopard (10.6)

September 5, 2009

I’ve been using my Drobo and several Western Digital hard drives plugged into my Airport Extreme for well over a year trouble-free. Since upgrading to Snow Leopard the connectivity is horribly unstable. Seems that the Finder drops connection to the Airport shared drives after about a minute or so. Also, the drives are not showing [...]

Anything you say Mr. Laporte

August 24, 2009

Much to the pleasure of Audible, I have been completely swayed by the call of Leo Laporte to listen to audio books. A couple of weeks ago I joined Audible with the code provided on TwiT and gave it a go. My first selection was iWoz, an autobiography by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. It was [...]
